Recently, I found myself standing on the deck of Quark Expeditions’ Ocean Explorer gazing at the towering fjords of Eastern Greenland. The silence was broken only by the crack of a glacier and the call of seabirds. It’s hard to put into words what it feels like to be surrounded by landscapes so ancient and untouched.

This journey wasn’t just about travel, it was about perspective.

The Ocean Explorer itself was a revelation, its innovative, energy efficient design along with thoughtful spaces provided the perfect balance between comfort and adventure. From the panoramic two storey library (my favourite) to the outdoor viewing decks where you could watch the world go by whilst enjoying the hot tubs and a cocktail!

Every day I was fascinated by the icebergs drifting past and felt deeply connected to the nature and the vastness of the world.

Days were filled with zodiac excursions into hidden fjords, walks through Arctic valleys and a visit to Ittoqqortoormiit, one of the most remote Inuit settlements on earth.

Meeting the people who call this wilderness home reminded me how resilient communities can be when they live in harmony with nature.

At night we hoped the Northern Lights would dance across the sky but unfortunately the clouds were against us – a humbling reminder that nature is always in control.

The amazing expedition team were constantly scanning for wildlife and we saw minke whales, musk ox, arctic hare & polar bears including a mother with two cubs.We were witness to the beauty that exists when we step beyond our daily routines and immerse ourselves in the extraordinary.

This expedition taught me more than I expected: that exploration fuels creativity, that slowing down allows space for reflection and that shared adventure builds bonds – I have made some lasting friendships in my adventure travels.

I came home with everlasting memories and a renewed sense of curiosity and courage and for that, I’ll always be grateful.
